Parents often ask me for suggestions for good infant and toddler toys. Somehow it is easier to select toys for preschoolers with all the dinosaur, pirate and fairy princess play sets. I want to give you some things to look for when selecting a toy to stimulate your child’s language and have fun at the same time:
- provides an element of surprise
- has faces to communicate with and be drawn to for dialogue
- has lots of textures, colors, sounds, to talk about to your child
- has many options for flexible play, opening and closing, putting something in and out of a pocket, pulling a string longer and shorter etc.
